The Expo will begin on October 20, 2020 in Dubai, in the
United Arab Emirates. Partly fair, part show, part event dedicated to training,
this six-month planetary event, which takes place every 5 years in a different
city, has its roots in history, with the Great Universal Exhibition of London
in 1851. Among the innovations presented at the Expo over time are the X-ray
machine (Buffalo, 1901), the ice cream cone (St. Louis, 1904) and the mobile
phone (Osaka, 1970). The most recent exhibitions have focused more on the image
of nations than on new products. This edition, in particular, will involve the
entire Middle Eastern region.
The theme "Connecting minds, creating the future ”is in
line with Dubai's role as an international trade hub and with its heterogeneous
population, made up of only 8% by Emirati. The Dubai Universal Exposition will
also reflect the country's ambitions in technology and aerospace. The Emirates
have in fact a Ministry for Artificial Intelligence and in 2019 they sent their
first astronaut to space. Around 25
million visitors are expected, of which over 70% from abroad. A record number
of 192 countries will take part in the event, including Israel, not officially
recognized by the Emirates, and Qatar, with which relations ended in 2017. Some
countries
that did not participate in Expo 2015 Milan, such as the
'Australia, will be present. A dome with
a steel structure covering the surface of 16 tennis courts will connect three
thematic districts focusing on sustainability, mobility and opportunity. After
a careful analysis of Expo 2010, held in Shanghai, the Dubai team reduced the
exhibition space by 30%, making it more "collected".
The experience of Milan convinced to plan three entrances,
to better manage the queues, and always from the Lombard capital we were
inspired to focus on the legacy of the Exhibition. After the event, the Expo
site, fully prepared for 5G, will be converted in District 2020, a "free
zone" (with more advantageous taxes and standards) for residential and
commercial use, with automated transport and a capacity of 90,000 people. .
The German Siemens group plans to open a logistics center
there. Accenture will create a center for you to exhibit new technologies.
Driven by infrastructure built for the Expo, including the extension of the
metro line, the UAE's GDP is estimated to have grown 1.9% in 2019. While growth
of 3.1% is expected in 2020 The government cut corporate taxes and eased restrictions on
foreign business owners.
